Syndesmotic High Ankle Sprain

Syndesmotic high ankle sprain refers to the tearing of ligaments located above the ankle called the high ankle ligaments or syndesmosis. The injury may occur due to intense rotation or twist of the ankle after a fall or ankle fracture. People involved in intense sports are more prone to this injury.

For immediate treatment you will be advised rest, applying ice packs, gentle compression and elevation. Medications may also be prescribed. In case of a fracture, surgery may be required. Complete recovery may take up to six weeks, depending on your overall health.
