The core decompression technique is employed to treat avascular necrosis, a condition wherein a bone dies due to lack of blood supply. It involves drilling into the necrotic regions of the femoral bone, starting from its neck up to the head, to facilitate rapid bone recovery. Open core decompression with bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) involves the injection of concentrated bone marrow into the necrotic regions of the hip thighbone during the surgery. BMAC is a biological concentrate of stem cells typically extracted from patient’s own bone marrow, which promotes rapid healing and minimum complications.
