LCL (Posterolateral Corner) Tear

The lateral collateral ligament (LCL) is present along the outside of the knee joint. It is commonly injured along with other knee ligaments and can undergo stretching or tearing. LCL tears can cause pain, stiffness and instability. Minor injuries can be treated conservatively by immobilization, pain medications and physical therapy. Severe injuries need surgery to repair or reconstruct the ligament.
