ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

Dr. Anthony Festa is an orthopedic surgeon in his fourteenth year of practice. Dr. Festa is a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist and is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). His expertise includes non-operative and operative treatment of sports injuries in pediatric, adolescent and adult patients, from the recreational to the professional level.

Dr. Festa received his undergraduate degree from Boston College, where he graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Festa earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and then completed his orthopedic residency at Tufts University Affiliated Orthopedic residency in Boston, Massachusetts, where he trained at the renowned New England Baptist Hospital. Dr. Festa then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Program where he served as an assistant team Physician for the San Diego Padres and San Diego State University.

Dr. Festa is an Associate Clinical Professor of orthopedic surgery at Seton Hall University. He serves as the Assistant Director of the orthopedic surgery residency program at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he is the Assistant Director of the Sports Medicine Division and the Director of the Shoulder and Elbow Service. He serves as an instructor at the Arthroscopy Association of North America’s National Learning Center where he teaches the latest arthroscopic techniques to resident and attending level orthopedic surgeons from all over the country.

Dr. Festa has published extensively in his field, authoring multiple book chapters and dozens of articles in peer-reviewed literature. His work has been published in the leading orthopedic surgery journals including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy and the Journal of Arthroplasty.

Dr. Festa has served as the head team physician for Seton Hall University since 2008. He is also an orthopedic consultant for Montclair State University, The New Jersey Jackals Baseball Team and multiple local New Jersey high schools.

Dr. Festa has served on the Board of Councilors representing the state of New Jersey at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), along with being an AAOS fellow. He has served on the board of the New Jersey Orthopedic Society. He is also a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), American Arthroscopy Society of North America (AANA) and the Big East Sports Medicine Society.

Dr. Festa has received numerous awards and accolades. The American Orthopedic Association (AOA) has identified Dr. Festa as an Emerging Leader in the field of orthopedic surgery. Most recently he was named the Orthopedist of the Year in New Jersey by the Arthritis Foundation.

PUBLICATIONS

Dr. Festa is actively involved in research. He has published numerous textbook chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on the topic of orthopedic sports medicine. His work includes topics ranging from ACL injuries, shoulder instability and biceps tendon disorders. Other current research interests include rotator cuff injuries, throwing related injuries and cartilage disorders of the knee. His work has been presented at state, regional and national meetings.
